Solar PV

Overview

Solar photovoltaic technology (or "PV" for short) uses energy from the sun to generate electricity. PV panels can be mounted on roofs, integrated into building facades, or mounted on free-standing racks.

Solar PV comes into its own where electricity requirements peak at times of high sunshine, for example for air-conditioning systems. Where this is not the case, the electricity can be fed into the electricity grid. The UK Feed-In Tariff, which aims to support domestic installations in particular, makes the installation of solar PV attractive. All electricity generated from a PV system benefits from a generation tariff (guaranteed for 25 years). In addition, any electricity exported to the grid is further rewarded with export payments.
